The new Apollo headphones from Sendy Audio use planar-magnetic drivers and feature an open-back ... [+] design.

Last month I reviewed the excellent SIVGA SV023 wooden headphones that were some of the best I’ve heard in quite a while. Now SIVGA’s sister brand Sendy has announced something entirely different for the headphone market in the form of the Sendy Audio Apollo.

These all-new wooden headphones have an open-back design and massive 68mm diameter magnetic planar drivers. The Apollo headphones feature both 4.4mm balanced and 3.5mm single-ended connectors with real rosewood housing for an exceptionally warm and beautiful sound.

Sendy Audio has been producing a range of acclaimed hi-fi headphones with a real-wood finish since 2016. The new Sendy Audio Apollo headphones are balanced open-back headphones designed for audiophiles who want the best possible sound quality.

The Sendy Audio Apollo come with a detachable two meter cable terminated with a balanced 4.4mm ... [+] Pentaconn connector.

At the heart of the Apollo are 68mm planar magnetic drivers. This technology is different from the regular dynamic drivers that are used in most headphones. Planar-magnetic drivers produce sound by electrically vibrating a very thin sheet of advanced material that can move a much larger volume of air to create a bigger sound.

Each driver in the Apollo headphones is housed in a chambered shell made from genuine rosewood. And although planar magnetic headphones usually tend to be larger and heavier than dynamic models, the engineering team at Sendy Audio has managed to whittle down the weight of the Apollo to a relatively light 395g so that the headphones feel much more comfortable to wear, especially for long periods.

In a press release by Sendy Audio today, the company claimed that the new Apollo headphones have “an exceptionally wide soundstage, superb separation and detail.” The planar magnetic drivers have been designed with Quad-Former technology incorporating dual magnets and a dual-coil placed on either side of a central diaphragm.

The memory-foam ear cushions on the Apollo headphone ensure a comfortable fit.

According to Sendy Audio, the advantage of this arrangement is the delivery of extremely low distortion and improved musicality. The Sendy Audio Apollo headphones have a wide frequency response ranging from 20Hz to 40kHz. They also offer a sensitivity of 95dB and an impedance rating of 16Ω.

Thanks to some detachable soft memory foam earcups, genuine leather and stainless-steel headband, the Apollo delivers just the right amount of clamping force and unnecessary pressure. The headphones feel light, and the company says they are comfortable to wear for extended periods.

The cable connections on the Sendy Audio Apollo are angled, ensuring the wires fall away from the shoulders when worn. The Apollo have a detachable, braided, two-meter balanced cable terminated with a 4.4mm Pentaconn connector. The cable is a 6N OCC type with four strands, each composed of 30 0.08mm cores and 250D break-proof wire.

The Apollo headphones are designed specifically for use with balanced sources such as portable digital audio players and headphone amplifiers. Also included is a 4.4mm balanced to 3.5mm single-ended adaptor, hemp bag, and leather carrying case.

The Sendy Audio Apollo come with a protective leather case, detachable cables and connectors for ... [+] 4.4mm and 3.5mm.

Pricing & Availability: Sendy Audio Apollo are available now and priced at $499 / £469.
