Morgan Engineering, a Stark County company that makes advanced material-handling products and kinetic structures for a variety of industries, has acquired a nearly 80-year-old heavy fabrication and machining company based in Girard, Ohio.

Alliance-based Morgan did not disclose financial terms of its purchase of Girard Machine. It said in a news release issued Monday, Feb. 27, that all 32 Girard Machine employees have been retained, including owners Tom and Mark Malito, who will be general managers of the 120,000-square-foot facility in Girard that will be known as Morgan Manufacturing Plant No. 3.

The combined company will have 205 employees, a Morgan spokeswoman said in an email. Morgan's customers are in industries that include aluminum, steel, electric power plants, refuse facilities and container handling.

Mark Fedor, CEO of Morgan, said in the release that Girard Machine "has been a reliable supplier to Morgan for many years." He added, "Our values and processes are aligned, so it makes sense for us to bring our organizations together and build new opportunities for growth."

The Malitos' grandfather, Dominic Malito, started Girard Machine in 1946 with Guy Chuirazzi. Tom Malito said in the release that he was "pleased that our family legacy will continue in Girard through Morgan," adding, "Our employees are brought into a well-run, reputable company that has a track record for growth. We are excited to see where the company goes next."

The release stated that the Girard Machine acquisition "expands Morgan's production capacity by 35% and will help the company control lead times within its supply chain because it can produce more parts in-house."

The Morgan spokeswoman said in the email that the privately held companies do not disclose annual revenues.

Morgan offers a range of industrial services through five business units: Morgan Engineering, Morgan Site Services, Morgan Automation, Morgan Kinetic Structures and Heppenstall/Blaw-Knox. With the Girard Machine acquisition, it has a total of about 1.2 million square feet of manufacturing space.
